Sachatamia punctulata is found in three areas of northern Columbia, on the eastern side of the central mountain range; Tolima, Antioquia, and Caldas Departments (Figure 2) [1, 2]. It is found at 360-1400m above sea level and covers a range of 16558km2 [1].

Details:

This species resides in low and intermediate forests, on vegetation adjacent to streams [1]. During breeding, eggs are laid on vegetation over-hanging water [1]. When the eggs hatch they drop into the water below to continue developing [1]. These frogs are very sensitive to habitat disturbance as they need uninterrupted gallery forest (a corridor along a waterway) [1]. Eggs of this species have been found to be predated by a ground beetle [2]. These frogs are a pale green with white spots across the body (Figure 1) [3].

The subpopulations of this species are very isolated with no movement of individuals between them, this poses a serious threat to the species as their gene pools are limited [1]. The overall population is estimated to be decline as a result of a number of threats but more research is needed for better estimations of size [1].

Threats to the species:

  • Genetic isolation [1].

  • Agricultural expansion (illegal and legal) [1].

  • Mining [1].

  • Logging [1].

  • Dams [1].

  • Invasive species [1].

  • Pollution (agriculture) [1].
