Sclerophrys taiensis is only found in two locations; Tai National Park, Côte d'Ivoire and Gola Forest, Sierra Leone (Figure 2) [1]. It is a lowland species, occurring below 500m above sea level, but is not found anywhere else in the region [1]. This species is estimated to cover an area less 500km2 (this estimate is based on the size of the sites it's found at but is likely to occupy a much smaller area) [1].

Details:

The Tai Toad is found only in primary rainforest, close to streams [1]. It is presumed to breed in these streams [1]. This is a very rare and declining species [1]. Little else is known about this species.

Threats to the species:

  • Agricultural expansion (cocoa, rubber, oil palm) [1].

  • Logging [1].

  • Urbanisation and development [1].
