Distribution:
Centrolene ballux is found in for location in northwestern Ecuador and in Columbia - in the Pichincha Province, Santo Domingo Province, and Nariño Department (Figure 2) [1]. This is species is found between 1500-2010m above sea level and over a range of 3135km2 [1].
Details:
Burrowes' Giant Glass Frog can be found in humid upper montane forest, living on vegetation adjacent to streams [1]. Males of this species call from ~2m up on riparian trees, near fast-flowing streams [2, 3]. The populations are presumed decreasing due habitat degradation but efforts to survey this species in recent decades have only found a few individuals [1].
This species is found in two protected reserves, one in Ecuador and one in Columbia [1]. The Columbian reserve is managed by an indigenous community and is very effective at preventing habitat change [1].
